Fuel nozzle keeps clicking off when refuelling
The pump keeps shutting off after a second or two, so filling the tank takes several attempts and a lot of patience. The cause is almost never the pump and almost never the fuel gauge: filling a tank means displacing the air already in it, and that air leaves through the evaporative emission system's vent. Block the vent — with a stuck valve, a crushed pipe, or a canister that has been flooded by overfilling — and the fuel backs up into the filler neck, which is exactly what the nozzle's cut-off is designed to detect. Stop topping up past the first click; that habit is a common cause of the fault rather than a workaround for it.

What this usually means
The cause is almost never the pump and almost never the fuel gauge. Filling a tank means displacing the air already in it, and that air leaves through the evaporative emission system's vent. Block the vent — with a stuck valve, a crushed pipe, or a canister that has been flooded by overfilling — and the fuel backs up into the filler neck, which is exactly what the nozzle's cut-off is designed to detect.
So the nozzle is working perfectly. It senses fuel at its tip and stops, as it should; what has changed is that fuel is reaching the tip because the tank cannot breathe out fast enough to accept it.
Stop topping up past the first click. That habit is a common cause of the fault rather than a workaround for it — liquid fuel forced past the first cut-off can reach the vapour canister, and a flooded canister no longer passes air, which makes the problem permanent.
