P0919: Gear Shift Position Control Error
What to do
Ask for two things before a gearbox is opened: that the clutch is confirmed to be releasing fully, and that the actuator calibration is re-run. A dragging clutch makes every gear hard to engage and is a smaller repair than a synchroniser. If both check out, this code is most likely telling you the gearbox is wearing rather than that a part has failed.
What this code means
The shift mechanism did not reach the position it was commanded to. Circuits check out and the sensor is credible; the movement itself failed to complete.
This is the automated manual's clutch-wear code, and it is worth reading as one. Engaging a gear on a synchronised gearbox means bringing two shafts to the same speed through the synchroniser ring, then sliding the collar across. A worn synchroniser takes longer to match those speeds. A human driver never notices, because a hand naturally holds pressure until the gear goes in. A robot works to a fixed force and a timeout — so a synchroniser that has worn past a certain point produces a shift that simply does not complete in the time allowed, and the module records it.
That makes P0919 a measurement of gearbox wear expressed as an electronic fault, which is exactly the shape of P0810 for the clutch. Both are adaptive systems reporting that they have run out of adaptation, and both are far more often wear reports than component failures.
A clutch that is not fully releasing produces the same code by a different route: with drag still on the input shaft, the synchroniser is fighting the engine as well as the shaft inertia. That is worth eliminating first, because it is the cheaper of the two.
