Cooling Fan
Draws air through the radiator when road speed cannot — which makes it the entire cooling system in stationary traffic. That is why a failed fan produces a car that behaves perfectly at speed and overheats within minutes of stopping, a pattern that misleads people into looking for an intermittent fault. The version worth watching for is a fan running slowly rather than not at all, usually from stiffening bearings or a corroded earth: it looks and sounds like a working cooling system while moving too little air to be one.
