Ride Height Sensor
Reports how far the body sits above an axle, through a short lever linked to a suspension arm. It is what tells the vehicle its own attitude — used by headlamp levelling, air and adaptive suspension, and on some vehicles by the systems that decide the car is loaded.
Its position explains almost every failure it has. It hangs under the vehicle in road spray and salt, on a thin drop link with a small plastic ball joint, and moves through its full travel with every bump. The link snaps, the ball joint perishes and the lever corrodes — a cheap part in an awkward place, and far likelier than the module reading it.
And it must be calibrated to the vehicle's actual ride height, so a car that has been lowered, re-sprung, or had suspension components replaced needs the calibration redone. Without it the vehicle corrects to an attitude it no longer has, which reads as a sensor fault and is not.
