Ask for the sensor to be inspected and cleaned before it is replaced. It sits directly in the soot stream from the exhaust, and a coating of soot insulates it so it reads low — the sensor is often undamaged, just buried, and cleaning is a fraction of the cost.
Leaving the car overnight helps diagnosis considerably, because these faults are found from stone cold when every temperature sensor should agree with the others.
Mention any loss of power, black smoke, or a rough idle, which would suggest the EGR system itself is at fault rather than the sensor.
A pattern of short journeys makes soot build-up worse. Occasional longer runs at sustained speed genuinely help keep the whole EGR system clearer.
Ce que signifie ce code
The first EGR temperature sensor is reporting a value that is electrically valid but does not fit the conditions.
This sensor is not the one in the exhaust after the turbocharger — it sits in the recirculation path, and confusing the two sends the diagnosis to the wrong end of the engine. Its job is to confirm that recirculated exhaust gas is being cooled before it re-enters the intake.
That matters because cooling is the whole point of modern EGR. Recirculated gas is inert, so it lowers combustion temperature and suppresses nitrogen oxide formation — but only if it arrives cold. Hot gas raises intake temperature and works against the purpose.
Range/performance means the reading is present and not credible, and the cheapest proof is a cold soak: after the vehicle has stood overnight, this sensor should read close to ambient and close to every other temperature sensor on the engine.
Soot is the characteristic failure and it is worth understanding, because it is not electrical. This sensor sits directly in the soot stream. A coating of soot insulates the element, so it reads low and responds slowly — the sensor is undamaged and buried. Cleaning it can be a genuine repair.
Where the reading is honest, the fault is the cooler. A cooler blocked with soot or bypassed by a stuck valve genuinely delivers hot gas, and the sensor is reporting that correctly.
