Wat te doen
Expect the car to be driving in front wheel drive, and to feel entirely normal until the surface is slippery. That is the system removing itself rather than the car breaking.
Ask for the wheel speed sensors and the codes from the braking system to be read first. This module works from wheel speeds it does not measure itself, so one failing sensor elsewhere makes it report something impossible — and a sensor is a fraction of the price of the coupling or the module.
Mention two things that produce this without anything being broken: whether the car has been towed with only one end of it lifted, and whether it has been worked hard on a tight, high-grip surface. Both overheat the coupling, which then takes itself out deliberately.
Ask when the coupling fluid was last changed. It has a genuine service interval that almost nobody knows about, and degraded fluid produces exactly this complaint.

The first thing to know is that this module is mostly a consumer of other modules' data, and the corpus's argument at U0415 applies here with full force: a code names the messenger, not the fault.
An on-demand all wheel drive system decides how much torque to send rearwards, and it decides using wheel speeds it does not measure itself — they come from the braking module — together with throttle position, steering angle and its own clutch temperature. So an implausible output from this module very often begins with an implausible input to it. A single failing wheel speed sensor is the classic origin, and it will usually have set its own code as well.
The second thing is temperature, because it produces a fault that is not a fault. The clutch pack in a rear differential coupling generates real heat when it is worked, and every one of these systems protects itself by disengaging when it gets too hot. A vehicle towed on a trailer with only one axle raised, driven hard on a tight surface, or used off-road in low grip, will report values that look wrong because the system has removed itself. The condition clears on cooling.
The third is fluid, and it is specific to this component. These couplings use a fluid with a defined friction characteristic and a genuine service interval that owners rarely know about. Degraded fluid changes how the clutch responds to a given command, so the module asks for one thing and measures another.
Do not let a coupling or a module be replaced on this code alone. Read every stored code first: if a wheel speed sensor is among them, that is the fault and this is the consequence.
