Wat te doen
The car drives normally. You may have lost sound from part of the system — often the bass, if this is a subwoofer amplifier.
Check for damp: boot floor, under the seats, in the spare wheel well. Amplifiers get mounted wherever there is room, which tends to be exactly where water collects. A wet boot and an amplifier fault are usually one problem, and finding the leak matters more than the module.
Make sure the amplifier is not buried. If it is under a seat or in the boot with luggage packed against it, it cannot get rid of its heat — and a unit that cuts out when worked hard and recovers later is telling you that rather than failing.
If the stereo has been changed for an aftermarket unit, mention it. Factory amplifiers expect to be spoken to in a particular way, and this code is what happens when they are not.
Wat deze code betekent
Audio amplifier B is broadcasting data that cannot be accepted as true. See U0400 for what an invalid-data code is and why the module it names is usually the messenger rather than the culprit.
A second amplifier means a system with separated channels — a premium package with its own subwoofer amplifier, a rear-zone amplifier, or a vehicle large enough to need distributed power. See U0538 for the family; this adds what is specific to a second unit.
Amplifiers are mounted for space rather than for dryness, and the second one usually gets the worse location — under a seat, in a boot side panel, behind a wheel arch liner, beneath the parcel shelf. All of those are places water reaches, from a blocked sunroof drain, a failed tailgate seal, or a spare wheel well that has been quietly full since the last time the car was washed.
So a damp carpet and an amplifier code are one fault, and the leak matters more than the module.
Heat is the second cause, and it is self-inflicted. An amplifier under a seat with a bag pushed against it, or one in a boot buried under luggage, cannot shed heat. A unit that misbehaves when it is worked hard and recovers when it cools is describing that, not an electrical fault.
And the aftermarket case is strong: a replacement head unit that does not speak the factory amplifier's protocol leaves it reporting states nothing understands.
