The car drives normally, but the main screen will be blank or unresponsive — and with it, possibly the reversing camera, the parking display and the climate controls.
Two things matter more than the entertainment. Check that you can still demist the windscreen — many cars keep a physical defrost button for exactly this situation, and if yours does not, a screen you cannot demist makes the car unsafe in cold or wet weather. And assume the reversing camera is unavailable, so reverse using your mirrors and by looking round.
Try a reset before paying for anything. These systems are computers and they do hang. Many vehicles have a hard reset — usually holding the power or volume button for ten to twenty seconds — and locking the car and leaving it alone for half an hour to fully power down often achieves the same. If it comes back and stays back, nothing was broken.
And have the battery tested. Low voltage puts these modules into a protective state where they drop off the network exactly as a failed one would.

The front entertainment module is usually the head unit — the screen and the system behind it — and on a modern vehicle that is no longer just entertainment. It commonly hosts the climate controls, the reversing camera display, the vehicle settings menus, the parking sensor display and the telephone. So its loss removes a set of functions that have nothing to do with music, and the reversing camera is the one with a safety dimension.
The consequence worth flagging is a specific one: on many vehicles the physical climate controls were deleted when the screen absorbed them. Losing the screen can therefore mean losing the ability to change the demister, the temperature or the fan — and a windscreen that cannot be demisted is a roadworthiness problem rather than a comfort one. Most vehicles keep a hardware defrost button precisely for this reason, and finding out whether yours does is worth doing.
Two ordinary explanations should be eliminated before anything is diagnosed.
A module that has crashed rather than failed is common on these systems — they are computers, and they hang. Many vehicles have a documented hard-reset (typically holding the power button for ten to twenty seconds), and a full sleep cycle with the vehicle locked and left alone often achieves the same. A code that clears and does not return after a reset was a hang, not a failure.
