P0868: Transmissieoliedruk — laag
Niet doorrijden
Stop driving it. This is one of the few transmission codes where each additional journey does measurable, permanent damage — low pressure means clutches slipping, and slipping means heat that destroys them. Have the vehicle recovered rather than driven to a garage, and have the fluid level checked as the very first step, because it is both the commonest cause and the cheapest.
Wat deze code betekent
Hydraulic pressure inside the transmission is genuinely too low. Not a sensor circuit reading low — the pressure itself.
This is the code the whole transmission range has been building towards, and it is the one where continuing to drive has a real and compounding cost. Pressure is what holds the clutches together. Below what a clutch needs, it does not disengage cleanly and stop working; it slips while still transmitting torque, and every second of that slip converts engine power directly into heat at the friction surface. The material glazes, the fluid cooks, and the damage accumulates journey by journey. A transmission that could have been saved by a filter and a fluid change becomes one that needs rebuilding, and the difference between those two outcomes is measured in how far it was driven afterwards.
The causes, cheapest first: fluid low enough that the pump draws air, degraded fluid, a filter restricted enough to starve the pump, a worn valve body leaking pressure away, an internal seal or sealing ring that has failed, and finally the pump itself. The first two are checkable in minutes and account for a meaningful share.
One behaviour worth recognising. Because the pump is engine-driven, pressure is lowest at idle — so this fault shows itself first as a long pause before drive engages after the vehicle has been standing, and improves once revs and temperature rise. Anyone who has noticed that pause and thought little of it has been watching this develop.
