U0291: Perda de comunicação com o módulo B de controle da troca de marcha

O que fazer

Use the parking brake deliberately every time you stop, and do not trust the gear display.

On your car the gear lever is not mechanically connected to the gearbox — it sends a request to a module, which carries it out. With that module unreachable, the car may refuse to come out of park, may refuse to go into park, or may show a gear it is not actually in. The last of those is the dangerous one, because it is what you would act on.

Do not leave the car on a slope relying on park. Put the parking brake on firmly, and if the vehicle rolls at all when you release the brake pedal, it is not in park whatever the display says.

The car will probably still drive, because these selectors have redundant sensing — but treat it as a fault to get seen quickly rather than one to live with.

If a drink has been spilt into the centre console, mention it — the selector lives there, and that is a common cause.

O que este código significa

The second gear shift control module has stopped being heard from. See U0200 for the block's framing.

A gear shift control module is the shift-by-wire selector's brain, and the argument the corpus makes at P0820 is the one that matters here: on a shift-by-wire vehicle there is no mechanical connection between the lever and the gearbox.

Moving the selector is a request. A module reads it, decides whether the request is permissible, and commands an actuator to carry it out. So park is not a mechanical fact but something the vehicle is doing on your behalf — and a module that cannot be heard cannot be asked.

The practical consequences are specific and worth predicting:

  • The vehicle may refuse to leave park, which is a no-start in effect.
  • It may refuse to select park, which is the one with a consequence beyond inconvenience — a vehicle that will not confirm park should not be left on a slope, and the parking brake becomes the thing holding it.
  • The gear display may stop agreeing with reality, which is the most dangerous version because it is the one a driver acts on.

So the advice is concrete: apply the parking brake deliberately every time, and do not rely on the display to tell you what is engaged. The corpus makes exactly this argument at P0820 and it applies unchanged.

A second shift control module normally means a monostable or electronic selector with redundant sensing, or a vehicle with both a lever and buttons or a rotary control. Redundancy is the reason it is marked drivable — the vehicle can often still be operated through the remaining channel, in a degraded way.

Physically the selector sits in the centre console, which is where drinks are spilt and where the corpus already places a leading cause of control-panel faults.

  • O carro — marca, modelo, ano e motor. A mesma falha se comporta de forma diferente em cada um.
  • O que você mediu, não só o que trocou.
  • O que realmente resolveu — ou que nada resolveu, o que também vale saber.
