EcoBoost is a badge, not an engine, and that is the whole of this page.
Ford applies it to any petrol engine that is turbocharged and direct-injected, and to nothing else in common. In this catalogue alone it covers 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.3, 2.7, 3.0 and 3.5 litres — three-cylinders, four-cylinders and V6s, across Ford, Lincoln and Volkswagen, whose Amarok carries one.
So two cars both described as having an EcoBoost may share no part and no procedure. A 1.0 three-cylinder Fox and a 3.5 Cyclone V6 have different blocks, different heads, different belts, different failure modes and different repair costs.
What to establish instead is the displacement and the internal family name. Both are on the engine and in the build data, and every useful answer follows from them while none follows from the badge.
The one thing the badge does tell you is real, though: direct injection with no port injection behind it means inlet-valve carbon deposits are a maintenance item on every engine wearing it. There is no fuel washing the back of the valve, so what the crankcase breather deposits there stays — and the symptom is a misfire and rough running at low load, at high mileage, on an engine that is otherwise healthy.
