Que faire
Expect equipment on the converted part of the vehicle to have stopped or to be misbehaving.
One thing is worth checking before anything else, and on a converted vehicle it is the commonest cause: the earth strap between the body and the chassis.
The body your equipment is mounted on is often not electrically joined to the chassis — bolted through paint, mounted on rubber, or made of something that does not conduct. So a separate earth connection is made deliberately, and it carries everything the body equipment draws.
It lives under the vehicle in the salt, and when it corrodes the body's earth drifts away from the chassis — which puts the network's signals out and stops them being read.
The signature is that it follows load rather than movement. Worse when the body equipment is running, fine when it is not, and completely absent on an empty vehicle sitting in a workshop.
So say whether it is worse when the equipment is working, and ask for that earth strap to be inspected first. It is accessible, it is cheap, and it is very often the whole answer.

One cause is specific to working vehicles and it is the leading one: earthing across a join.
A converter's equipment needs earths, and the body it is mounted on is frequently not electrically continuous with the chassis — bolted through paint, mounted on rubber, or built from a material that does not conduct at all. So the earth has to be brought back to the chassis deliberately, and that connection carries everything the body draws.
When it corrodes — and it is under the vehicle, in the salt — the body's earth floats up relative to the chassis. Every signal referenced to one and measured against the other is then wrong, and the network is one of them.
Which produces a fault that behaves with load rather than with movement: worse when the body equipment is running, better when it is not, and completely absent on an unladen vehicle in a workshop.
So the earth strap between body and chassis is worth inspecting before the bus pair is traced at all — it is accessible, it is cheap, and on a vehicle of this kind it is the commonest single cause.
