If the radio reception has gone, the satellite navigation cannot find you, the phone app has stopped connecting and the keyless entry has become unreliable — that is not four faults. It is one.
The fin on your roof is not just a radio aerial. It houses the radio, digital radio, satellite navigation and mobile data aerials, and on many cars the receivers for keyless entry and the tyre pressure sensors, all in one small unit. So a single problem there produces complaints that look completely unrelated.
Two questions find most of these. Has the headlining been down for any reason — a sunroof repair, an aerial fitted, a roof console, airbag work? The connectors up there are very often left unseated afterwards. And has anything been on the roof — bars, a box, a bike carrier — or has the car been through an automatic car wash that caught the fin?
One more thing worth checking yourself: look up. The seal around the fin is a known place for water to get in, and the water does not stay there — it runs down inside the headlining and comes out somewhere else entirely. A damp headlining, a wet pillar trim or water dripping onto a seat may well share a cause with this fault. If you also have a sunroof, its drains are worth checking at the same time.
The car is safe to drive.
Wat deze code betekent
The antenna control module has stopped being heard from. The general reasoning is at U0100, and U0486 corrects the assumption this code invites — the fin on the roof is not a radio aerial but a housing, containing most of the vehicle's connections to the outside world in one place.
Which produces the pattern worth recognising, and it saves an entire diagnosis: poor or absent radio reception, satellite navigation that cannot find the vehicle, connected services and the phone app unavailable, and unreliable keyless entry — all at once. Four complaints that appear unrelated, one housing.
Silence points somewhere specific, and it is almost always mechanical rather than electronic. These modules are reached by dropping the headlining, which happens for a sunroof repair, curtain airbag work, a roof console, or an aerial retrofit — and the connectors are frequently left unseated afterwards. A fault dating from any interior roof work is that connector until proven otherwise.
Two other physical causes. Roof bars, a roof box or a bike carrier can crush the cable run, and an automatic car wash can catch the fin itself — either of which produces an open circuit rather than a degraded signal.
And one thing to look for that has nothing to do with reception. The fin's gasket is a known water path, and the water does not stay at the aerial: it runs down inside the headlining and along the roof rails to the lowest point. A wet headlining, a damp A-pillar trim or water appearing on a seat can share a cause with this code — so look up before looking anywhere else. U0169's sunroof drains are the other roof water source and are worth eliminating at the same time.
