U0019: Bus de communication CAN basse vitesse
Que faire
Everything probably works, and this is still worth fixing. That is the unusual thing about this code, and it is worth reading before deciding to ignore it.
This part of your car's network is built with a deliberate safety net. It normally uses two wires, but it can also run on either one alone if the other fails — so when one is damaged, the car quietly switches to the survivor and carries on as though nothing happened.
Which means this code usually arrives with no symptom whatsoever. Windows, mirrors, locks and lights all work. Nothing feels different.
But the safety net has now been used. The next fault — on the wire that is still good — is the one that stops everything, and by then the first damage is months older, more corroded and much harder to find.
So the cheap moment to fix this is now, while the car still works. That is the opposite of the usual advice, and it is the whole point of this page.
Mention any damp carpets, water in the boot, work involving trim or seats, or anything fitted to the car after it was built. And do not be talked into believing there is nothing wrong simply because nothing has stopped working.
Ce que signifie ce code
A fault has been detected on the low speed data bus. See U0003 for the electrical faults and U0010 for why a vehicle has several networks.
This network is built differently from the other two, and the difference produces the single most useful fact in this range: it is designed to keep working after a fault.
Low speed CAN is commonly implemented as a fault-tolerant network. It carries the usual pair, but each node can also transmit and receive using one wire alone, referenced to earth. When the network detects that one conductor has failed — open, shorted to earth, shorted to power — it switches into single-wire mode and carries on.
Which is why this code very often arrives with nothing wrong at all. Every window, mirror, lock and lamp works. The driver has noticed nothing. And the network is running on its reserve.
So the argument this page exists to make: a low speed bus code with no symptom is not a false alarm. It is the redundancy being spent.
The second failure is the one that stops things, and by the time it arrives the first has usually been ignored for months — so the fault that gets fixed is the second one, at a point where the first is old, corroded and much harder to find. The cheap moment is now, while one wire is still good and the vehicle still works.
Two practical consequences follow.
Do not judge urgency by symptoms here, which is the opposite of the advice everywhere else in the corpus.
And do not apply U0003's 60 ohm test. A fault-tolerant low speed network is terminated quite differently — often at each node, at much higher values — and the familiar figure means nothing on it. Use the manufacturer's data. The one reading that still holds is that near zero ohms is wrong on any bus.
