Mention the weather when this appeared. In cold conditions this is very often frozen reductant rather than a failed pump — the fluid freezes at about −11°C — and the real fault is then the tank or line heater rather than the pump itself.
Mention if you have noticed a pump running for a minute or two after switching the engine off, or if that noise has stopped. That is the system emptying its lines so they cannot burst when frozen, and if it has stopped happening, that is a genuine clue.
Ask for the pump filter to be checked. Dried reductant forms hard deposits that block it, and that is much cheaper than a pump.
Do not delay. The emissions system escalates towards a speed limit and eventually a refusal to restart.

The reductant pump is not delivering when commanded, or is stuck off.
This pump does more work than its size suggests. It draws fluid from the tank, raises it to several bar, and holds that pressure steady so the injector's opening time translates into a known dose. Metering accuracy depends entirely on pressure being where the module thinks it is — so a pump that under-delivers makes every dose wrong.
The failure modes worth separating:
- The pump is not being commanded. An electrical fault upstream, which the wiring will show.
- The pump is commanded and cannot move fluid. Frozen reductant is the seasonal cause — a system that failed to purge its lines at shutdown, or a tank heater that is not working, leaves solid fluid the pump cannot shift.
- Crystallisation. Dried reductant forms hard deposits that jam the pump or block its filter. This is the commonest mechanical cause on an older vehicle.
- The pump has genuinely worn out.
The purge cycle explains a noise owners often ask about. Most systems pump fluid back to the tank after the engine stops, so the lines are empty and cannot burst if they freeze. A pump audible for a minute or two after switching off is that working correctly — and a system that has stopped purging is one that will fail in the first frost.
Check for a stored heater fault, because in cold weather this code is frequently the consequence of one.
