O que fazer

The airbag warning light means the side airbags and curtain on the left of the car may not deploy in a crash. The car drives normally, which is why this gets left; it should not be.

One thing is worth knowing because it explains a very common version of this fault. Airbag connectors contain a small metal clip that deliberately shorts the wires together when the plug is pulled off — a safety feature, so that stray static cannot set the airbag off while it is unplugged. If a connector is pushed back on but not fully clicked into its lock, that clip can stay engaged, and the car reads a fault even though the plug looks perfectly connected.

So if anything inside the car has been apart recently — seats out, carpets lifted or dried, sill trims off, seat belt work, a stereo or speakers fitted — say so. The fix may be as simple as properly re-seating a connector that somebody thought was in.

Otherwise mention any water inside the car, since these modules sit low in the pillar where water running down inside it collects, and any work done to that door.

As always on this system: do not have the light simply cleared, do not accept a second-hand airbag module, and refuse any offer to fit a resistor in place of a component.

O que este código significa

The left side restraints module has stopped being heard from. The general reasoning is at U0100, U0151 covers the main restraints module, and U0453 explains how side impacts are sensed — including why anything that changes a door's sealing changes what a pressure-based sensor reads.

This page carries one fact that belongs to the whole restraints system and is easiest to state here, because it explains a large share of open-circuit faults on it.

Restraints connectors contain a shorting bar. When such a connector is unplugged, a small metal clip inside it deliberately shorts the two pins of the firing circuit together — so that static electricity, a stray voltage or a careless probe cannot set off the airbag or pretensioner while it is disconnected. It is a genuinely good piece of design and it saves people.

But it has a consequence that produces exactly this kind of code. A connector that is pushed on but not fully latched can leave the shorting bar still engaged, so the circuit reads as shorted rather than as an open one, and the module refuses to arm. The connector looks connected. It is seated. Nothing is visibly wrong.

So the correct response to a restraints fault following any interior work is to unlatch and properly re-seat the connectors rather than to inspect them, because inspection cannot distinguish the two states. These connectors have a positive lock — usually a coloured slide or lever — and it has to be pushed home until it clicks.

Otherwise this is the U0453 environment: the module sits low in the pillar or sill, where water running down inside the pillar collects, and behind trim that comes off for seat belt work, sill trims, carpet drying and audio installation.

And the U0151 rules apply without exception: nothing on this system is touched with the battery connected, and a resistor substituted for a component is never a repair.
