The airbag warning light means the crash protection may not be working properly.
A car with ten crash sensors is a very well-equipped one — side and curtain airbags, knee airbags, rear pretensioners, pedestrian protection, probably a rollover system. Every one of those needs its own sensor, which is how the count gets this high.
So the first question is the one at U0178: does your car actually have it? If the airbag computer has ever been replaced — especially with a second-hand one, or after accident repair — it may be looking for a sensor your car never had, and reporting it missing forever. No amount of testing finds that, because there is nothing to find, and correcting the coding is the fix.
If the sensor is genuinely there, everything on the other pages in this family applies. Mention any bumper, door, seat or trim work; anything fitted to the car after it was built; any water inside it; and whether the fault comes and goes rather than staying.
Do not have the light simply cleared, do not accept a second-hand airbag module, and refuse any offer to fit a resistor in place of a sensor.

One numbering note, because this page has no counterpart to point at. The Invalid Data Received family stops at sensor I in the decimal numbering and continues into the letter-suffixed part of the U047x range, so there is no invalid-data page in this corpus for sensor J. The reasoning at U0479 still applies to it; only the code number is elsewhere.
And this is where the family stops here too. The standard continues past J into the letter-suffixed layer, so a scan tool naming a restraints sensor beyond J is reporting something outside the numbering this corpus enumerates. The pages in this family still describe it.
A tenth crash sensor puts the vehicle in a very small category — a large, heavily specified car with side, curtain, knee, centre and rear airbags, rear pretensioners, pedestrian protection and usually a rollover system as well. Every one of those needs its own input, and that is how the count reaches this far.
Which makes U0178's question the first one, not the last: is the sensor fitted? On a vehicle at the top of a range the answer is usually yes; on one coded from a generic file or carrying a used restraints module, it is frequently no — and the search that follows finds nothing because there is nothing there.
