Brake Light Switch
Reports brake pedal application, and is deliberately redundant — one circuit closes as the other opens, so a module can distinguish a genuine brake application from a failed switch. Its signal reaches much further than the brake lights: cruise control will not engage without it, many automatics will not shift out of park, and stop-start will not operate. Frequently misadjusted rather than failed, particularly after work in the driver's footwell.
