Lighting Driver Control Module
The power electronics behind LED lighting — not the module that decides what should be lit, but the constant-current supply that makes it happen.
An LED needs current regulated, not voltage applied. Its brightness and its life depend on that regulation, so every LED lamp sits behind a driver, and losing the driver extinguishes the lamp regardless of how healthy the LEDs are.
That distinction is worth real money and should be asked about explicitly. On many vehicles the LEDs are not serviceable separately from the lamp assembly, so what would once have been a bulb is now potentially a complete unit — but a failed driver is not a failed lamp, and a matrix headlamp assembly can be among the most costly single parts on a vehicle.
Where a vehicle has several drivers, the symptom is often partial rather than total: a lamp dimmer than its partner, missing part of its pattern, or no longer changing shape. Nothing is fully dark, so nothing looks obviously broken. On adaptive systems that can leave segments lit which should be dipped — dazzling oncoming drivers with nothing inside the car to say so.
Drivers run hot by nature and sit in or beside lamp units, so heat and the moisture that gets into an ageing housing account for most failures.
