Wat te doen
If the car drives perfectly and keeps going flat when it stands, this is very likely why — and that combination is the clue rather than two separate problems.
A network wire is being held down, and a network that is being held down cannot go quiet — so the car never goes to sleep, and the battery drains over a few days.
And the fault often clears while the car is running, which is exactly why it gets missed: it is not present when anybody looks at it.
So ask for the drain to be measured while the car is parked and settling — not during a road test. That is a specific and reasonable request, and it is the difference between finding this and being told nothing is wrong.
Damp is the leading cause, because damp is the thing that comes and goes as a car stands overnight. Check the carpets and the boot floor, and say whether the problem is worse after rain.
Do not let the battery be replaced again before the drain has been measured properly.
Wat deze code betekent
The positive line of vehicle communication bus D is being held low. See U0004 for the short-to-earth argument and U0040 for why a failed module can hold a line down exactly as a damaged wire does.
One consequence follows from U0055 and it changes the urgency.
A bus held low is a bus that cannot go quiet, and a network that cannot go quiet cannot sleep. So this fault reliably flattens a battery, and it does so whether or not the vehicle is being driven.
Which makes the flat battery a symptom rather than a coincidence — and it is often the only symptom, because a short that appears when the vehicle is parked may release when it is running. A vehicle that drives perfectly and is dead every third morning, with a bus code stored, is describing this exactly.
And it explains why the fault is so often missed: it is not present when anybody looks at it. The measurement has to be made while the vehicle is parked and settling, which is the U0055 procedure, not during a road test.
Where it comes from is the usual short list — a conductor chafed against the body, an aftermarket earth beside the pair, water in a connector — with damp leading, because damp is the cause that comes and goes with the vehicle standing overnight.
