Reverse Light Switch
Signals that reverse has been selected. Its reach is wider than the name suggests — besides the reversing lamps it wakes the parking sensors and the reversing camera, and on many vehicles suppresses features that make no sense travelling backwards. That is why its failure is usually reported as a camera that no longer appears rather than as anything to do with the gearbox, and why the transmission is rarely the first place anyone looks.
