EGR Cooler
A small heat exchanger that cools recirculated exhaust gas with engine coolant before it reaches the intake, so a greater mass of inert gas can be returned without raising intake temperature. Fails in two ways worth telling apart: blocked with soot, which reduces flow, or split internally, which admits coolant into the intake and produces white exhaust smoke and unexplained coolant loss with no external leak.
